Where will you join: Political Party or Social Movement ?

We've been hearing news all over the world about how political issues have been
growing even though there are changes in the governance..

And no matter how we people argue on what's really the reason why corruption
does not stop until now..still we can never reformed of what's really  right..

And so as to share my views and other members here too:..just wanted you
guys to select on what party are you going to join if ever there will be divisions
in the society with regards to it's political sides and social..

As for me, I think I would just go to Social Movement.. In that way, I might be able
to express my own views among other members..for the sake of our community..
That even in my own little way, I could contribute..

    I'd go for Social Movement..
As I've said before.. better to have a stand decide by the community that follow
on what were the government wants you to do.. Having a community involvement
lets the member know, each person's idea of what were the changes that they wanted to
be applied.. Taking into account that corruptions happens everywhere around the globe..

Re: Where will you join: Political Party or Social Movement ?

I would go for Political Party

Now the way I see this is that a social movement is a common idea shared by a community (whether its online or in a small town) that they hope will catch on among those not involved in the social movement just like the civil rights movement was a social movement trying to convince those in power to end state mandated segregation and racial discrimination.

Now is the time to become realistic however. This country has regrettably been in party based system for over two centuries now and the fact is is that this country functions under political parties. to come in with a "social movement" with no legitimate means to introduce candidates (whom would share the ideas in our social movement) would be rejected outright even by members who lean in our direction simply because we don't have the credibility that even less popular parties like libertarians have.

If one of the parties that aren't in power (Demo/Repub) would win an election like the libertarians or Insallah the Purple Party It would make history as the first TRULY democratic overthrow of a political system. No violence, no bickering or spin tactics, just putting candidates out there who give complete answers and after losing tens if not hundreds of elections start to get a headway because they are honest and consistent.

The party system isnt inherently evil or wrong the real problem with it is that it has been polarized into two dominating parties who are unwilling to stay true to there actual values because of the fear of alienating voters so they give wishy-washy distorted answers on most contentious issues. Even in the last election if you listened to a lot of answers given by both Baruch Obama and John McCain there answers are incredibly vague and sound very similar even though there ideals are VASTLY different.. This is because of the fear of alienating voters and wanting to appease interests.

We must realize that we are in a system of political parties and we must adhere to that system if we wish to challenge it with any credibility.

You cannot walk up to basketball players and challenge them to a game of checkers to decide who is the better basketball player. In the same way we cannot REALISTICALLY strive for this MASSIVE change in our system simply through conviction and integrity alone we must get invovled in the system and challenge in a way that can have an impact (Like the influence of independt Ralph Nader  in the 2000 election, although regretibly it happened to pan out in favor of George W. Bush whom im sure we're all HUGE fans of)

    Thanks for readin' everybody!

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between political party systems and social movement activity comparatively after the third wave of democratization. Through a cross-country comparison of 38 countries, we find that citizens are more likely to use contentious tactics in states with plurality elections where the party system is less open to change with a changing salient issue environment. Consistent with this finding, as the effective number of political parties in the legislature increases, the level of contentious social movement activity decreases in a country. In more flexible electoral system with a higher number of political parties, we find less protest activity, indicating that political parties effectively fulfill their role of representing different constituencies and maintaining relationships with organized groups. Constituencies are more likely to seek the attention of the authorities through protest activity where there are limited number of parties with all encompassing agendas and an electoral system that limits party entry into the system.
